SAE 1045 steel plate and sheet is a medium carbon steel with an about 0.43-0.50% carbon, 0.60-0.90% manganese, and incidental amounts of sulfur and phosphorus. It contains good mechanical properties such as 570-700 MPa tensile strength, 300 MPa yield strength, and 170-210 HB hardness. It has excellent strength, satisfactory weldability, and better machinability. It is best suited for shafts, gears, and structural parts demanding toughness and resistance to wear, and hence can be used in many industrial applications.
